Paris Watercolor Landscape

For this assignment, we again had to make a sketchbook cover.

Steps

Step 1 : Firstly, we had to find inspiration and references for ideas of what we would want on our sketchbook covers. My first inspiration was a cityscape of paris in just blacks and greys and whites with color pops of red. My second inspiration was beach scenery at night. My third one was a watercolor bicycle with flowers in the basket. My last one was a a collage of a mountain scenery.

Step 2 : Then I sketched out all of the pictures to see if I could draw them and see how much I liked them.

Step 3 : Although it was quite hard, I decided to do the paris cityscape. I drew it on an A4 paper.

Step 4 : I then used watercolor gel crayons to paint it. I also used some black color pencil at the end for finishing touches.

Reflection

Some things that turned out really well in this were the buildings, the perspective and the shading. Something I can improve on next time is definetly the trees. Even though they had an important significance in the artwork, my poor execution impacted that. I faced failure while shading the ground. I found it immensely hard to do due to the large portion of area that needed to be shaded. I dealt with my failure by persevering and spending a large amount of time on improving it. I also used color pencils later to try to improve it. Despite my efforts, it didn't turn out perfect - however - this was a learning experience in my journey of shading and blending using watercolors.
